  • See how for centuries Sri Lankans have been inspired by nature when building their civilization – explore the ancient sites of Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Ritigala, Sigiriya, Pidurangala and Polonnaruwa.
  • Dip into the travelers bucket list – the views of Ellla and a hill country train ride
  • Slow down and relax with yoga and Ayurveda.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Negombo

  • Arrive in Negombo, known for its vibrant coastal life and the Muthurajawela Wetlands.
  • Explore the Negombo Lagoon for bird watching, home to numerous species including herons, egrets, and kingfishers.
  • Enjoy a relaxing evening by the beach and the local seafood delicacies.
  • Overnight stay in a hotel in Negombo

Day 2 & 3: Wilpattu National Park

  • Drive to Wilpattu National Park, a renowned wildlife haven, famous for its leopard sightings.
  • Spend the next two days on safaris in Wilpattu, home to the Sri Lankan leopard, elephants, sloth bears, and an abundance of bird species.
  • Enjoy evening safaris to catch a glimpse of wildlife as it becomes more active in the cooler hours.
  • Overnight stay in a Wilpattu Safari Camp

Day 4 & 5: Sigiriya

  • Travel to Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Explore the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and nearby Pidurangala Rock.
  • On day 5, venture on a safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, where you can witness the famous elephant gathering (from July to September) or spot other wildlife like crocodiles and various bird species.

Day 6: Kandy

  • Head to Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka.
  • Visit the Udawattakele Forest Reserve, a hidden gem for bird watching, home to species like the purple-faced leaf monkey and various endemic birds.
  • Explore the Temple of the Tooth and relax by Kandy Lake.
  • Overnight stay in a Hotel in Kandy

Day 7: Nuwara Eliya

  • Travel to Nuwara Eliya, known for its scenic beauty, cool climate, and tea plantations.
  • Visit the Hakgala Botanical Garden, home to numerous bird species, and explore the Gregory Lake area, which is great for bird watching and enjoying nature.
  • Optionally, explore the Horton Plain National Park for a more tranquil wildlife experience.

Day 8 & 9: Yala National Park

  • Drive to Yala National Park, famous for its large population of Sri Lankan leopards.
  • Embark on morning and evening safaris in Yala, spotting leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and diverse bird species.
  • Enjoy the diverse landscapes, from dry forests to coastal wetlands, which offer a rich variety of wildlife.

Day 10 & 11: Sinharaja Forest Reserve

  • Head to Sinharaja, Sri Lanka’s premier rainforest reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Trek through the forest with a guide to experience the vibrant wildlife, including endemic birdsinsects, and reptiles.
  • The forest is home to rare species such as the Sri Lanka blue magpie and green pit viper.

Day 12: Tangalle

  • Head to Tangalle for a more relaxed day, enjoying the coastal beauty of southern Sri Lanka.
  • Visit Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and enjoy a boat ride to observe migratory birds and other wildlife.
  • Relax by the beach or explore nearby fishing villages and coastal ecosystems.
  • Witness turtles visiting the shore to lay their eggs in the late evening.
  • Overnight stay in a Hotel in Tangalle

Day 13 & 14: Mirissa

  • Arrive in Mirissa, a popular beach destination.
  • Spend your time on a whale watching tour (best between November and April) to spot blue whales and dolphins.
  • Explore Koggala Lagoon, enjoy a leisurely boat ride, or relax on the beach. You can also explore the nearby Paravi Wella and enjoy the sunset.

Day 15: Departure

  • Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final walk along the beach or a short tour of the Galle Fort.
  • Depart from Colombo for your journey back home, with memories of Sri Lanka’s incredible wildlife and natural beauty.
